Temperatures and Fishing during the Drought, Part 2
Joel Condren, owner of 8200 Mountain Sports and South Fork Anglers, tells us that his guides are recording high temperatures on the Rio Grande in the afternoons, so he has instituted “Sun Downer” rules, which means that guides and fisherfolk will be off the river by 1 pm. His guides carry thermometers and regularly monitor the water temperature to ensure that fish are not stressed too much.
SLV TU members can buy a high quality thermometer (for measuring water temps) from the club for $10.00, which includes the shipping and handling. They can mail a check or cash (made out to the SLV Chapter of TU) to SLV Trout Unlimited, PO Box 503, Alamosa, CO 81101. OR, if they contact Doug Camp directly he will arrange a direct delivery at a mutual time and location. Doug’s mailing address is 4710 Sierra Vista Road, Alamosa 81101. You can also contact him him via Email at dougjazzfish@yahoo.com or mobile phone at (719) 588-5524. We also have Rio Grande Fly Fishing Map-Guides for sell at a cost of $10.00 each.
