Our chapter awarded three prizes to participants at the SLV Regional Science Fair on March 5 & 6:
Hannah Shelton, Centauri Middle School, for her project entitled “Understanding the Variables that Affect Water Quality and Rainbow Trout in Smith Reservoir During the Winter”. This project investigated dissolved oxygen content and other water quality variables under the ice at Smith this winter.
Madeline Mitchell, Sargent Middle School, for her project entitled “Do Bugs Affect Fish Health In Rivers?”. This project investigated the relationship between macroinvertebrate concentrations/identity and numbers/pounds of fish in the Rio Grande at different sampling locations.
Rut Trujillo-Abeyta, Antonito Justice and Heritage Center, for her project entitled “Go Fish!”. This project investigated the physics of different graphite fly-rods with a particular emphasis on effects of action on casting distance.
