Thanks to everyone that was able to make it to our October Meeting. We had a good crowd and all enjoyed the presentation from Chris Pitcher of Riverbend Engineering. It was great to see what Chris has been working on for the Conejos Lower Meadows Project and everyone was excited to see the plans starting to come together. Chris did a great job of describing river flow dynamics and what can be done to improve the fish habitat especially during low flows like the upper Conejos experiences in the winter.

We also had an update from Daniel Boyes, Stream Management Plan Project Coordinator for the Rio Grande Headwaters Restoration Project. Daniel and his group have already done an amazing amount of work on this very worthwhile project. We really appreciate Daniel making the effort to update the chapter. The Stream Management Plan for the Rio Grande Basin will be the guide for the management of rivers in the basin in the future and it is important for TU to stay involved and help out Daniel and the RGHRP.

As required by National TU, board elections for the chapter were also held at the October meeting. It was a hard fought battle for all the existing board members but I am happy to say that all the past board members were able to hang on to their positions, more or less! All kidding aside, if you are interested in seeing the chapter continue to move forward and would like to be involved, I urge you to consider a position on the board next year. It can be a fun and rewarding job and you get to work with some great folks. I want to say thanks to all of my fellow board members for your willingness to continue serving on the chapter’s board. We couldn’t accomplish much without each and every one of you!

It would be great to see any of you that can attend our Flies and Lies meeting coming up on Tuesday, November 19th, 7 PM at Square Peg Brewerks. This fun informal holiday meeting is a great time to visit, tell some stories, enjoy some good beer and maybe learn a new fly tying technique or two. If you are a fly tier please consider bringing your equipment and joining in on the fun.

If I don’t see you at Flies and Lies have a Happy Thanksgiving! Thank you for supporting SLV Trout Unlimited!
