Featuring Guest Speaker, Ron Velarde

Ron was a long-time employee of the Division of Wildlife and was stationed in the San Luis Valley from 1973-1980. Ron served as the first District Wildlife Manager in San Luis, before transferring to the Monte Vista District.

While Ron was in the San Luis Valley, he was one of the individuals responsible for the first reintroduction efforts of the Rio Grande Cutthroat. If you’ve ever wondered about the history of the Rio Grande Cutthroats in the San Luis Valley, including Haypress Lake, Jim Creek, Torcido Creek, and Frisco Creek, now is your opportunity to hear the stories from an individual who was directly involved in the initial conservation efforts.
