Nearly 20 folks listened to an excellent presentation by Chris Pitcher of Riverbend Engineering, who reported on plans for our project in the Meadows section of the Conejos River, just below Platoro Reservoir. Chris spent several days surveying prior work and developing plans for habitat improvement in the river. When complete, there will be narrower and deeper channels to provide better overwintering habitat, additional complexity afforded by rock and rootwad structures, while still providing protection from erosional events during high water. The chapter is excited by the plans and now we have to secure necessary funding and cooperative agreements with partners.

Daniel Boyes also brought the chapter up-to-date on the work he’s been doing to develop Stream Management Plans for the Rio Grande, Conejos, and Saguache Creek.

October is our annual meeting for election of officers, and the list on the front page of this newsletter is current. You may have gotten “off the hook” for this coming year, but we are still keeping you in mind for next year!
