The City of Alamosa Parks and Recreation Department, together with Colorado Parks and Wildlife and SLV Trout Unlimited, have installed two handicapped-accessible fishing piers at the Blanca Vista Park ponds (just east of Cattails Golf Course in Alamosa). A Fishing is Fun grant from CPW covered the majority of the cost, with TU kicking in additional funding. CPW will be stocking the ponds. At this time, fishing is limited to youth under 16, but that may change in the future.
Dr. Frank Novotny, Professor of Chemistry at Adams State University (and SLVTU member), and his students have agreed to undertake a project monitoring temperature and dissolved oxygen at the Blanca Vista ponds to determine optimum conditions for fish. His study will inform decisions about where, when, and what species are best suited for the ponds. Thanks, Frank!
