A Note From the New Editor
First and foremost, please join me as we acknowledge Marty Jones for extraordinary service to the San Luis Valley TU Chapter over many years, including his most recent tenure as the Editor of this newsletter.
Thank you Marty!
My name is Don Spencer. I am honored and nervous at the same time to be your new editor. I have been a member of Trout Unlimited for many years and have the common passion (with you) to participate in the art of fly fishing while conserving the natural resources that are so precious to our eco-system.
I live in South Fork with a home on the Rio Grande river. There is a boat ramp at my place with a drift boat ready to launch. I have been working on creating habitat for the brown trout and an occasional rainbow in the river adjacent to my home. The ultimate goal is to create a spawning habitat to help sustain our fish population.
Thank you to all who welcomed me at our last meeting. A special thank you from me personally to Marty for a great training session, although this will be a “work in progress” for a bit as I learn how to at least attempt to follow in the footsteps of an established high standard. Also, a shout out to our long-standing President, Mark, for his assistance and patience with me on this first run, and all the help he will provide me in the future. I will do my best to include relevant content on a consistent basis.
I encourage everyone to contribute with pictures, quotes, recommendations, and short stories about your fly fishing experiences.
If you know of someone not receiving the newsletter through their email it probably means I don’t have their current email address and they can send it to me at gficoach@msn.com.
The “gfi” stands for “Go For it’. I used to own, operate and coach at one of the largest gymnastics based training businesses in the country in Las Vegas. I relocated here in 2009 and I am now a Certified Residential Appraiser. My firm is called Accuracy Matters Appraisals.
Please feel free to shoot me an email or text with any suggestions on how to make any improvements or corrections to this newsletter.
Going for the gold in life,
Don/”Spence” Spencer
PS
My nickname is “Spence” and that is the editor nickname I will be using in the future. This is as much for reference as it is for having someone else to blame rather than me when I make a mistake writing this newsletter!
